At Hogans Family Jewellers, we understand that selecting or designing an heirloom piece of jewellery is a deeply personal and significant experience. Our bespoke design consultation service allows you to create a one-of-a-kind piece for yourself or that special someone. To help you better understand the process, we’ve answered some of the most frequently asked questions below.
Q: What is a bespoke design consultation?
A: A bespoke design consultation is a personalised session where one of our expert jewellers work closely with you to bring your dream piece to life. Whether you have a clear vision or need guidance, we will help you select the perfect design, materials, and gemstones to craft a unique and timeless piece.
Q: How long does the consultation take?
A: The initial consultation typically lasts around 45 minutes to an hour. However, we take the time to ensure every detail is carefully considered, so additional meetings may be scheduled if needed.

Q: Do I need to bring anything to the consultation?
A: While not necessary, bringing inspiration can be helpful. This could include sketches, photos, or examples of designs you love. If you have heirloom jewellery you’d like to incorporate, feel free to bring it along as well.
Q: Is there a fee for the initial consultation and do I have to go ahead?
A: Our design consultations are completely obligation-free. The only instance you will pay during the consultation is if you decide to go ahead with the creation of your bespoke piece, in which we will require a 50% deposit. If we need to specially arrange ordering gemstones for you to select from or physical renderings of your piece, this could incur a fee, but this will be arranged during the consultation and the payment will be credited towards your final design. We also offer the lay-by terms for all purchases and bespoke designed pieces. Once your job is complete, the piece can be stored safely in lay-by for up to 3 months in preparation for that special moment.
Q: What happens during the consultation?
A: During your consultation, we will:
- Discuss your vision, style preferences, and budget.
- Explore different design options, metals, and gemstones.
- Provide you with sketches of your design as required.
- Explain the craftsmanship process and estimated timeline.

Q: How long does it take to create a bespoke ring?
A: The timeline varies depending on the complexity of the design, but generally, it takes between 4 to 8 weeks from the final design approval to completion. However, in some cases where a piece may be required urgently, we can accommodate where possible to have the piece completed sooner. Please discuss the possibility where applicable with our team.
Q: What if I’m not sure what design I want?
A: That’s completely fine! Our expert sales consultants can assist with guiding you through various styles, settings, and gemstones to help you discover what resonates most with you. If you're not quite ready to commit to the bespoke design process, you can book a consultation with one of our sales consultants, who will assist you in exploring your options and narrowing down the perfect piece.
Q: Can I use an existing gemstone or repurpose old jewellery?
A: Absolutely! We love working with sentimental pieces. We can reset family heirloom diamonds or gemstones into a new design that reflects your unique story.

Q: How much does a bespoke piece of jewellery cost?
A: The cost varies depending on the materials and complexity of the design. We will work with you to create a piece that aligns with your budget while maintaining exceptional quality and craftsmanship.
